An award-winning football commentator has an estimated net worth of close to £50m, a new study has reported.

Clive Tyldesley, from Radcliffe, has won the Royal Television Society Sports Commentator of the Year four times and he bagged the Sony Radio Awards Sports Broadcaster of the Year in 1983.

He made his name at ITV from 1998, where he has commentated on five World Cups, five European Championships, 17 UEFA Champions League finals and nine FA Cup finals.

The 69-year-old is also the lead commentator for CBS/Paramount Plus live UEFA Champions League coverage in America.

And he has now been ranked as the sixth richest sports presenter with a net worth of approximately £48.1m in research carried out by gambling comparison website Gambling Zone.

French footballing legend Thierry Henry topped the list by a distance with an estimated net worth of £102.4m, followed by former Sky Sports commentator Martin Tyler (£67m), and former Manchester United and England stars Owen Hargreaves (also £67m) and Rio Ferdinand (£59.1m).

Former Liverpool, Real Madrid and England striker Michael Owen made it to fifth spot with £53.6m.

Tyldesley released a memoir in 2021 described as a love letter to football titled "Not For Me Clive".

It mentions his education at Bury Grammar School and the beginning of his broadcasting career, which brought him into contact with some of the game’s biggest characters.

He said that one of his earliest footballing influences was former Bury FC boss Dave Russell, who lived next door to him on Radcliffe Road.
