WALSHAW will be going all out to claim a league and cup double after back-to-back wins over the weekend.

The Division One leaders chased down Astley and Tyldesley's total of 210-9 with five balls and five wickets to spare in the league on Saturday before wiping the floor with Premier Division side Flixton in the Derek Kay Per-Fit First XI Cup on Sunday.

Captain Mikey Watt was delighted to see his side bounce back from defeat against local rivals Woodbank to remain on course in both competitions.

And he says there will be no let up as they target maximum honours in the inaugural GMCL season.

"If you had asked me at the start of the season what the target was, I would have said winning promotion before everything else," said Watt.

"The league is our bread and butter, but now that we have made it into the cup semi-finals we might as well give it everything we've got to win it."

Watt paid tribute to opening batsman Saif Bhojani, who had a big hand in both victories.

Paul Bennett (101 from 102 balls) scored an unbeaten century for Astley and Tyldesley, while Alex Heaton added 45, but Walshaw bowler Kendrick Hatton helped restrict their total with 5-70.

Bhojani made Hatton's wickets count by guiding their reply with a patient, supported by Ally Dickson's 39 and 37 not out from all-rounder Nick Murphy.

Sub pro Majid Majeed set up their win at Flixton in the cup with 4-19, while Stephen Holt took 3-39 as the home side were bowled out for 148.

Jack McClung (45) and Bhojani (77no) put on 104 for the first wicket before Majeed added 16 to take Walshaw past their target inside 30 overs.

Division One rivals Bamford Fieldhouse also made it through, while Premier Division sides Clifton and Denton St Lawrence complete the line-up for the semi-finals, the draw for which was made last night, after the Bury Times went to press.

Watt added: "I don't really care who we get, but I would like a home draw so we can put on a bit of a show for the spectators as all our previous wins in the competition have been away.

"We would like to think we can hold our own against the Premier Division sides. We certainly did that against Flixton. It was a chance for us to see what kind of level we are at and the boys did not disappoint."

Elsewhere in Division One, Elton moved up to sixth place in the table following a four-wicket win at bottom side Whalley Range, while Woodbank remain fourth despite losing a tight game by four runs at home to Worsley.

Woodbank were well set on 84-4, chasing a target of 134 in a rain-reduced 42-over game, when Ryan Barker was out for 31.

Wicketkeeper Dominic Gowers (22no) carried on the fight, but wickets started to tumble at the opposite end. Kieran Grundy was last man out for nine with three balls remaining.
