GREENMOUNT’S prize for making it through to the first round proper of the Derek Kay Per-Fit First XI Cup was a tough draw at Premier Division rivals Egerton.

The Brandlesholme Road men were one of just five local sides to win through the preliminary round last weekend, beating Winton by seven wickets.

Walshaw have been rewarded with a home tie against Division Four East side Failsworth Macedonia following their 98-run victory at Stretford.

Woodbank head to Clifton, who are second in the Premier Division, after beating Roe Green by four runs.

Premier Division pacesetters Prestwich, who beat Radcliffe by eight wickets, are at home to Irlam, while Division Two leaders Stand are at Rochdale Catholic Club.

Edenfield and ELPM, who were both given byes in the preliminary round, are at Worsley and at home to Denton West, respectively.

Walshaw opener Saif Bhojani put in the performance of the weekend, hitting 135 not out from 147 balls in their total of 288-5 at Stretford.

Nick Murphy (59) added a half century as the Stretford bowlers were given no favours from an in-form Walshaw side.

Ryan Tazelaar took 4-46, taking the key wickets of Jason Stringer (38) and Adrian Holmes (43) in the 38th over of the Stretford innings to break a fifth-wicket stand of 83 and effectively seal victory.

Gavin Nichol’s 4-31 from seven overs proved decisive for Woodbank as they scraped through the preliminary round at home to Roe Green.

The visitors’ wicketkeeper Joe Davis looked to be taking the game away from Woodbank, hitting 40 after coming in at number six before being bowled by Nichol to reduce Roe Green to 178-9.

Roe Green then fell four runs short of Woodbank’s 188 total after Ryan Barker (2-34) wrapped up their innings.

Woodbank had earlier struggled to get going with the bat, wicketkeeper Dominic Gowers top scoring with 45no.

Greenmount cantered to victory at Winton, reducing the hosts to 212-6 then reaching their target with the loss of just three wickets and seven overs to spare. Pro Travis Townsend (2-42) removed Winton danger man Will Driver for 73 as the home side struggled to remove the shackles.

And Greenmount’s Australian opener Jonathan Sammut ensured they were always ahead of the run-rate, hitting 12 fours in his unbeaten innings of 112 from 139 balls.
