PETER Clarke picked up four awards, including the Bury Times Player of the Season, at the Shakers’ end-of-season dinner on Tuesday.

The experienced defender, who recently celebrated his 600th professional appearance, also won the Fans’ Player of the Season, Disabled Supporters’ Player of the Season and main award of the night, the ATL Packaging Player of the Season.

Bury’s top scorer Leon Clarke finished the evening with two awards – the Golden Boot, after netting 18 times this term, and the Players’ Player of the Season, voted by his team-mates.

Andrew Tutte won the Peter Jackson Player of the Season trophy for having the most man-of-the-matches, while Anthony Dudley won the Young Player of the Season following his terrific loan spell with Guiseley.

Goal of the Season was voted as Joe Riley’s wonder strike during the 3-1 victory at Sheffield United in September.

Fans’ favourite Ryan Lowe was presented with a Bury shirt signed by the whole squad as a farewell gift.

But the night belonged to Peter Clarke, whose four awards delighted the experienced defender.

“Over the course of time I have picked up one or two which is nice,” Clarke said. “To come away from the evening with four awards is fantastic and I’m thrilled to bits.

“I’ll probably have to speak to the wife and we’ll maybe ear-mark somewhere for them – maybe move some of the kids’ stuff.

“I have a couple of shelves for my awards, hopefully they’re strong enough to cope with the new ones.”

The four trophies will now join the rest of Clarke’s collection, which includes a 2012 League One play-off winning medal, which he achieved with Huddersfield.

But the 33-year-old does not like to bask in his own glory.

He added: “Promotion medals are always nice to have a look at when you get a couple of spare minutes but I’m delighted to have won the awards this evening.

“When I first signed, my sole thought and concentration was on doing as well as I possibly could for the team and the collective and if these awards come as part of that then that’s brilliant.

“I’m delighted that people have voted for me and I very much appreciate it.”

Clarke was released by Blackpool following their relegation last season and Shakers boss David Flitcroft was quick to bring the centre-back to Gigg Lane.

Reflecting on his first year with Bury, Clarke said: “Obviously, going back 12 months when I was making my decision on where the next step in my career was I was very confident I was making the right decision in picking Bury.

“I think that, not because of the awards, but I feel my decision to sign for Bury was completely vindicated. I have enjoyed the season no end, it has been fantastic to play with the lads here and in front of our fans.”
