GOLFERS can still sign up to a charity competition taking place at Lowes Park Golf Club on Sunday, August 30 in honour of former member Ted Andrew.

All monies raised in the Ted Andrew Charity Bell will go to the Lancashire Fusilier Museum in Bury, where he volunteered on the fundraising committee.

The popular annual event is a singles stableford and subsidiary team competition, which is £7 to enter per player or £30 for a team of four.

It is open to men, women and juniors, of all handicaps and abilities.

There will be prizes for the top three individuals in each category, as well as team prizes and a nearest the pin competition on a par three and par four of the organisers' choosing.

Rick Warburton, of Lowes Park, said: "Ted died very suddenly, aged 67, three years ago last February and we have run the event every year since his death so this competition is the fourth.

"He was well-known locally and a well-liked fella. He was ex-fire service and the competition is called the Charity Bell as Ted had a genuine fire engine bell in his loft which has now been mounted and is located in the club."

The fun will continue after the golf with a presentation, disco, karaoke and quiz evening starting from 7.30pm.

To take part, contact the Lowes Park secretary on 0161 764 1231 between 9am and 12.30pm to book your tee time or go to the club website, www.lowesparkgolfclub.co.uk, for an entry form.
