BURY'S Scott Quigg produced a stunning second-round knockout win over Kiko Martinez in his WBA World Super Bantamweight title defence at the Manchester Arena tonight.
It took the 26-year-old just over four minutes to despatch Spain's ex-IBF world champion with two second-round knockdowns forcing a stoppage.
Martinez was the aggressor in the opening round but Quigg floored the man who went the distance with Carl Framptonin in September with a superb uppercut.
The Spaniard got to his feet but Quigg sensed blood and sent the 29-year old to the canvas again to inlfict only a second knckout defeat on Martinez in his professional career.
It was a big statement from Quigg in front of a packed home crowd in Manchester and he was naturally delighted with the comprehensive victory that extends his unbeaten run to 33 fights.
Quigg said: "“The first round was how we knew it would be. He was very nervous, so he was sharp and on edge, and I had to see what he was doing.
“But I got my range and we knew he would come out quicker in the second and knew he would walk on to my shot.
"Hopefully now I will get some credit.”
