BURY threw away a four-goal lead in the Men's Summer League on Thursday, as they crashed to what had seemed an unlikely defeat at Morecambe.
Two goals from James Oakes and strikes from midfield duo James Larmett and Simon Major had seen Bury cruise into a 4-0 lead.
But Morecambe managed to grab a goal back just before half time and turned the game on its head.
Four unanswered second half goals saw Bury crash to only their second defeat of the campaign, but with positions tight at the top, it could end up proving a crucial result.
Bury's mixed team suffered another close defeat on Tuesday when they lost 2-1 at Golborne, despite a stunning strike from Adam Johnson.
An even first half saw make-shift keeper Toby Carr-Brown produce some important saves, but ultimately he was beaten as the Golborne striker somehow squeezed the ball underneath the onrushing keeper.
Immediately after the restart however, a Peter Wragg aerial was crashed home, with a first time volleyed effort from Johnson, to level the scores.
A tight second half saw both sides create chances but again Golborne took advantage, as another shot unluckily crept under Carr-Brown to give Golborne the victory.
