Pupils from Stubbins Primary School in Ramsbottom have taken victory in high five netball to seal their place at this year’s SPAR Lancashire School Games County Finals.

The team from Stubbins competed against 19 other schools from across the valley at Haslingden High School.

After two very close semi-finals the team made it through to the final to take on Haslingden Primary. They edged forward in the final minutes of the game to take the district title with Haslingden settling for second and Edenfield beating Waterfoot for third place.

Stubbins will now progress to the SPAR Lancashire School Games County Final where they will battle it out against others from across the county to be crowned Lancashire champions in high five netball.

The SPAR Lancashire School Games, now in its ninth year, is the biggest school games scheme in the county.

The county finals, which aim to give every child the opportunity to participate in competitive sport, will see over 2,000 children compete in sports including; gymnastics, handball, football, netball, rounders, athletics, tennis and tag rugby.

School Games Organiser for Rossendale, Nathan Bibby said “It’s great to see so many schools taking part in the mixed competition, which has helped to showcase the skills required for netball. Stubbins worked well together as a squad and it’s a great achievement to take victory from so many strong teams.

“I would like to thank all schools that attended and a special mention to Haslingden High School’s sport leaders who officiated all of the games.”

The event is organised by Lancashire Sport Partnership and is implemented by the county’s school games organisers. It is sponsored by James Hall & Company Ltd, the SPAR distributors for the North of England.

The SPAR Lancashire School Games County Final will take place at Stanley Park in Blackpool on June 30.
