BURY midfielder Danny Mayor has made the three-man shortlist for the Sky Bet League Two Player of the Year award.

The 24-year-old winger is up against Wycombe defender Alfie Mawson and Shrewsbury playmaker Ryan Woods for the prize, which will be announced at the annual Football League Awards dinner at The Brewery in London on Sunday night.

Mayor’s performances this season, scoring eight goals and providing a constant attacking threat down the left flank, have helped push Bury into the play-offs and the brink of automatic promotion.

“Attacking midfielder Danny has impressed right throughout this season with his pace, technical ability and his stunning array of long range goals,” said a spokesman for the Football League.

The Leyland-born midfielder started out at Preston and joined Bury on loan from Sheffield Wednesday last season before signing a permanent deal in the summer.

Previous winners of the League Two award, which is in its 10th year, include Bury striker Ryan Lowe, who claimed the prize in 2011, when the Shakers were last promoted from League Two.

The award is voted for by managers of each club in the division, who nominate their top five players in order and the combined points total is used to calculate the overall winner.
