A strong Bury YWCA travelled to Leyland for their final fixture of 2014 in the North West Premier on Saturday.

The hosts had already pushed the stronger teams in the league hard but their were undone by the strength of the Bury side in what proved to be a feisty encounter.

The visitors' defence made countless turnovers as Bury utilised their full squad with a good team performance to run out 54-37 winners.

Vicky Thornton received the player-of-the-match award as Bury finished the first half of the season in fifth place in the league table with a game in hand. The girls will be pushing hard in January to secure more points with a tough clash against league leaders Oldham up first.

In the regional Championship, Bury YWCA were at home to an experienced Chester team on Sunday.

In a goal-for-goal contest the first quarter ended 13-11 to Chester. Despite a solid performance from goal attack Kate Etchells, the Bury side were defeated 45-41. Team: Karim, Doughty, Smith, Edwards,Bloomfield, Myers, Etchells, Warburton,Vernon.
