BURY manager David Flitcroft is relishing the chance to get back to the training pitch after concluding a busy month in the transfer market.

The Shakers boss has brought in seven players on loan since the end of October, with central defender Adam El-Abd and midfielder Rob Millsom the latest arrivals this week ahead of yesterday's closure of the loan window.

They will be available for selection for tomorrow’s League Two encounter at home to struggling Dagenham and Redbridge.

And Flitcroft is eager to focus his full attention on steering his strengthened squad back to winning ways and end a run of three straight defeats.

He said: “Guide them, steer them, lead them – that’s my job at the football club, to give them (the players) something to really hold on to and let them go out and do the business.

“They want to do, they really care. They are hurting in there. There is an empty feeling and we have just got to make sure that we group together and stick to what we know we are good at.

“They are a group of players that want to get better. They want guiding, they want supporting, they want leading. I am all right at that. It is something I do enjoy doing.

“When people feel bad about themselves it is about how you pick them up, galvanise them and get that spirit back and I am looking forward to doing that.”

El-Abd, described as a “no-nonsense” centre-back by Flitcroft, is expected to make his debut at the heart of a three-man defence that sorely missed Pablo Mills for last weekend’s 3-1 defeat at home to Newport County.

Mills is a doubt again for the weekend with a groin problem, but El-Abd should provide a similar calming influence, with more than 300 appearances to his name at previous clubs Brighton and Bristol City.

Flitcroft’s biggest job this week will be to ensure he and Rotherham utility man Millsom settle into a squad that has undergone a period of upheaval in recent weeks due to new arrivals and injuries.

“We had a formula that was very energetic, very dynamic,” added Flitcroft. “Bringing new players in, I am not sure if it does have to take time for them to bed in, but certainly to get a synergy has taken quite a bit longer than I would have hoped.

“Once you have decided that’s what you want to go with it builds in that synergy, trust and togetherness.

“Certainly building connections and connectivity on the pitch is my job to do, and me and my coaching staff have to make sure we do that.”
