THE soldiers killed and injured in wars around the world will be remembered across the borough on Sunday.

Seventy years after the start of the Second World War, thousands of people are expected to attend services and parades held in honour of the fallen. Men and women who have seen action in Iraq and Afghanistan will stand shoulder to shoulder with survivors from previous conflicts.

The main civic parade will begin at Bury Town Hall at 10.30am, marching along Knowsley Street, Haymarket Street and Market Street towards Bury Parish Church.

Walkers, including the Mayor of Bury, Councillor Sheila Magnall, will assemble at the war memorial at 10.45am for the Last Post and the laying of the wreaths. A two-minute silence will be observed at 11am. A service will then be held in the church until 12.30pm, when the parade will re-assemble on The Rock and march back to the town hall. Further short acts of remembrance will be held in the town centre at 11am on Wednesday, marking the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month. They take place at war memorials in Market Place, Gallipoli Gardens, and the car park at Woodfield Retail Park.
