A teenager is fighting for his life in hospital after being stabbed in the arm.

Police were sent to Abingdon Avenue in Unsworth at around 5.05pm on Thursday after reports of a "disturbance".

It was discovered that an 18-year-old man had been stabbed in the arm and he was taken to hospital with injuries described as "life-threatening".

Bury Times:

A man in his 40s has been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder and he remains in police custody.

An air ambulance landed Bury Times: on St Bernadettes RC Primary School following the incident and large cordons have been put in place as detectives investigate.

A Greater Manchester Police spokesperson added: "Enquiries are ongoing at this stage and a scene remains in place while in officers continue their investigations."

Melissa Tapping, 25, said there have been police on Abingdon Avenue, Sawley Avenue and Rufford Drive following the incident.

She said: "My nan lives a couple of streets away and about 5.45pm and we go down Abingdon Avenue on our way home and we saw loads of police cars.

"We went to have a look what was going on and there was a large area cordoned off.

"There was a cul-de-sac with houses cordoned off and there was a door open.

"There was an air ambulance that landed on the grounds of St Bernadettes Roman Catholic Primary School which has now left.

"There has been a couple of incidents that have happened in the area recently.

"It just seems to be getting worse."
