A popular national pizzeria chain has announced plans to open a restaurant in the borough.
Rudy’s Pizzeria, which has more than 20 restaurants across the country, has lodged a premises licence application to the council to take over a vacant site in Prestwich.
Under the proposals, the business would take over the former Barclay’s Bank building on Bury New Road, opposite existing pizza parlour, Dokes, which was opened in 2022 by the team behind Manchester’s Elnecote.
The application asks for alcohol to be served between 10am and 11pm daily.
Rudy’s opened its first pizzeria in Ancoats in 2015 and has since taken over several sites in Manchester city centre, as well as opening restaurants in London, Liverpool and Birmingham. It now has 24 restaurants across the country.
The pizzeria firm serves the classic Italian staple with a Neapolitan-style base and it also offers vegetarian and vegan options.
In recent years, Prestwich has found itself firmly on the foodie-map with a number of exciting openings, including pizza restaurant Dokes, The Pearl, which specialises in class European dishes, Scandinavian fusion kitchen-bar OSMA and Karen’s Diner, which has welcomed a number of celebrity customers.

The plans will see a transformation of the retail space, which will include a community hub, retail spaces and a new village square.
The proposals also include plans for 200 new homes in the village, which are expected to be a mix of affordable homes, families and “downsizers".
