Royal reply causes “quite a stir” at Radcliffe care home

The King and Queen Consort have caused “quite a stir” at Hollybank Care Home after thanking all 45 residents, staff, and their families for their coronation well wishes.

Cristiana Cocora, the family liaison at home, said residents had wanted to be a part of the coronation celebrations and had come together to write a card.

She said: “We all signed, decorated, and contributed to what went into the card before we put it at the reception desk for anyone else who wanted to sign.

“We wanted to wish King Charles and Camilla congratulations and let them know that we celebrated the day with a big party here at Hollybank”.

After the card was signed, sealed, and delivered, Christina said she had hoped for a response, but was still shocked when one came through the door.

She said: “I took photos of the residents whilst they made the card and photos of myself delivering and posting the letter as proof that I had done it.

“Some of our residents suffer from dementia so I put these photos into a book a used it as a reminder of what we did."

After showing this book to residents, she told them and staff about the royal reply.

Christina added: “Some of our residents started to cry, they thought it was extraordinary for us to get a card back.

“We have been asked for lots of copies of the card sent by the King and Queen, many family members of residents have even asked us for copies too.”

She believes the activity and reply have brought the community and different age groups even closer together.

She added: “Even my daughter, who is 14, wanted to have a look and thought it was very cool”.

The Coronation of The King and The Queen took place at Westminster Abbey on Saturday, May 6.
