A borough musical festival is moving location as part of an "exciting new chapter".

Festwich, which has been based at St Mary's Park on St Ann’s Road in Prestwich for the last 11 years, will be taking place in Heaton Park this summer.

Organisers of the "UK's biggest tribute festival" announced the move on social media on Monday and said it will reveal a "mammoth line-up" soon for the event, which will run over the weekend of Saturday, August 31 and Sunday, September 1.

More than 30 tribute acts will be performing at the festival, spanning over two stages, with rides and food and drink tents.

A spokesperson for Festwich said: “After an incredible 11-year run at St Mary’s Park in Prestwich, Festwich, the UK’s biggest tribute festival, is embarking on an exciting new chapter by relocating to the iconic Heaton Park.

“Expect a mammoth line-up to be released soon.”

The festival faced criticism last year after St Mary's Park was left in a muddy, "unusable" condition following the festival.

And some said the area was too small to cater for such an event.

Dog walker Darren Laskier said residents had been left frustrated with the condition.

He said: “Festwich happens every year, it's not a problem but this year the park has been left like a swamp.

“Where the stages and trucks were, it's been left stinking and muddy.”

In response, festival organiser Jools Taylor said he and his team had "every intention" of restoring the park once it was dry enough to begin working on it.

But is is now thought that Heaton Park, which is also home to Parklife festival in June, will be a more suitable home for the event.

Tickets for the event will go on sale on Friday, January 26.
