Over 55s are being invited to try a South Korean style of martial arts for free with the message that “it’s never too late to try something new”.

A free Tang Soo Do taster martial arts class is taking place at the Bury Family Martial Arts Centre on Bolton Road on Tuesday, April 25, for those aged over 55s.

The taster session is part of First Time for Everything, a programme designed by Royal Voluntary Service to support physical and mental health, and wellbeing.

Supported by players of People’s Postcode Lottery, First Time for Everything aims to give people, particularly those that are older or less mobile the opportunity to try something new for free in their community and to be social and active.

Head of charities, at the People’s Postcode Lottery, Laura Chow, said: “It’s never too late to try something new and to have fun trying.

“First Time for Everything activities are a safe, gentle and enjoyable way to be active and social, which are vital to our health and well-being.

“Thanks to players of People’s Postcode Lottery, local people will be able to enjoy a wide range of interesting activities this year.”

Tang Soo Do is based on karate and is inclusive for all ages.

It includes moves such as punches and kicks, and supports fitness, flexibility, balance, coordination and spiritual wellbeing.
