A DRIVER found his car trapped four foot off the ground after mounting railings in Bury last night.
Fire crews were called to rescue a driver trapped in his car near Bridge Hall Lane at around 9.30pm on Thursday.
The vehicle had reportedly come off the roundabout, from the junction with the M66, and hit the railings, mounting them and travelling for several meters with the wheels on the passenger side trapped on the railings.
Firefighters reported that the driver then attempted to drive off but the back wheel remained impaled more than four feet off the ground.
A crew from Bury and Whitefield improvised using a ladder and a ratchet strap to secure the vehicle and open the door to free the driver, a man in his 30s.
Bury watch commander Steve Wilcock said: “It was a very unusual position to find a car.
“It caused quite a bit of disruption, police were called and people driving past kept slowing to have a look.
“The road was closed for half an hour while we managed to get him out and the car off the railings.”
There were no injuries reported from the incident.
