VISITORS should prepare to be dazzled at the fifth Bury Light Night being staged on Friday.

The annual family fun extravaganza, with a busy bee theme, will be buzzing with a variety of interactive events including a wide range of dancing, storytelling, lights and music.

The town centre will come alive through arts and culture, with performances at venues across the town, such as The Met, Mill Gate, The Rock, Castle Armoury and Bury Art Museum — from 6pm until late against a backdrop of lit-up buildings.

Bee-themed projections from Illuminos will be at the Castle Armoury, Church Gardens (opposite the Fusilier Museum), and at Debenhams on The Rock.

Other attractions include:

• Music from The Ambition, Whalley Range All Stars and Mr Butler and the Medicine Band, opposite Frankie and Benny’s, The Rock.

• The Big Bury Firewalk, and Dancing in the Street on The Rock

• Belly dancing from Az Kabile, and samba music from Bloco Asha in Lions Gardens, Crompton Street.

• Folk music from Eliza Carthy and others at The Met (paid event).

• Samba workshops, comedy, poems and songs at a performance tent in Kay Gardens.

• Acrobatics, fantastical machines, and magic at Kay Gardens.

• Remembering the First World War, with readings and music from the Royal Regiment of Fusilier Band and Corps of Drums at Gallipoli Garden.

• Hot air balloons and a UV typing art project at the Transport Museum.

• Homegrown Folk Festival music from Habadekuk, Coco and the Butterfields, and Edward II at the Castle Armoury.

There is also a large number of children’s events and performances, street entertainment, food and drink, and late-night shopping.

Bury Unitarian Church in Bank Street will be open from 5.30pm until 9pm and will be serving food and hot drinks as well as selling Traidcraft, second-hand books and home-made cards. Visitors will be entertained by piano music.

Award-winning artist Liz West is also creating a unique light exhibition at Bury Art Museum, which will run until February next year.

Temporary road closures and parking restrictions will be in place in the town centre during the event.
