A BRAVE 10-year-old boy who was diagnosed with a brain tumour just days after being sent home with cream for a ‘virus’ has died.

Limefield youngster Stewart Sheridan was given just months to live after a CT scan in February revealed an inoperable tumour on his brain.

His father, Michael Sheridan, claims a GP at Ribblesdale Medical Practice diagnosed Stewart with a virus, and gave him cream to treat it, despite him suffering hallucinations and persistent nose bleeds.

Mr Sheridan, of Arley Avenue, said that when Stewart was first taken to the GP practice in November he was told he had “excess blood”.

The Fairfield Primary School pupil was treated at Royal Manchester Children’s Hospital and underwent chemotherapy and radiotherapy at The Christie to try and shrink the tumour.

He passed away at his mum Kelly’s home in Potter Street on August 20.

Mr Sheridan said: “He was our brave little soldier. He was a really amazing boy and we all loved him so much.

“He had his family around him when he passed away. Stewart was so brave through the last few months. Even when he was having all of these operations and procedures all he kept doing was smiling and saying thank you to the doctors for helping him. It was incredible.

“He had been in and out of hospital, and when he was first released he came back home with me but then he started getting more poorly. The consultant told us he only had a few weeks left to live and Stewart decided that he wanted to be at his mum’s house until the end of his life.”

Stewart’s funeral will take place at Bury Parish Church at 11.45am on Friday. He will be buried at Bury Cemetery.

His family have asked for donations to be made to The Christie and the The Joshua Wilson Brain Tumour Charity, which supported Stewart and his family during his final months.

Dawn Fidler, the charity's founder and mum of Joshua Wilson, said: "We are honoured to have known Stewart and his family, and very proud that the charity has been able to support them.

"He was an amazingly brave young man who has fought a very, very tough battle. It's very sad news that he has passed away but at the same time I'm glad that he his no longer in pain."
